Conflict Matters is a set of events and tools developed by the Evens Foundation to explore the potential of conflict in the process of individual and social transformation.
We believe that the ability to confront conflicts is the first condition for enabling dialogue, which is crucial for living well together in our increasingly diverse societies. Conflict constitutes a powerful lens through which to understand a given situation and to transform it into something new. This also means that we understand peace not as a fixed state but as a process, a dynamic condition.
As part of this programmatic focus, we have proposed a variety of initiatives to examine the conditions for productive dialogue in divided societies and approaches that allow to turn conflict into an educational opportunity.
The success of the different small-scale exchange and peer-learning initiatives led to the conception of the Conflict Matters Conferences, designed as a platform for practitioners and researchers across Europe to meet, learn from each other and reflect on strategies for working with conflict in education.
In the wake of the conferences, we established the Conflict Matters Workshops led by a single organisation around a certain issue or theme. This initiative met a clear need among practitioners and educators to create more time and a more focused environment to learn from each other.
In line with these endeavours to disseminate and share good practice, we also launched the Conflict Matters Platform as an additional, online tool to enable exchange at a wider scale.
