Journalists in exile video series launches
New video series profiles participants in pilot Journalistic Voices Diversified programme
"Europe provides shelter to large numbers of journalists who have had to flee their home countries after facing persecution for their work. But too often they don’t get the support they need to go on doing their job properly, and in the end some just give up:" a new article from Voxeurop highlights the Journalistic Voices Diversified(JVD) project from the Evens Foundation, Are We Europe and Stichting Verhalende Journalistiek, marking the launch of a new video series profiling the participants.
In 2022, the pilot JVD programme saw a group of journalists in exile in Belgium and The Netherlands complete a four-month scheme of workshops, mentorship and training to help develop their careers in Europe. Escaping violence and persecution in Egypt, Venezuela and South Sudan, each of the participating journalists brings a unique perspective to the media landscape.
The programme aimed to help them develop new skills and engage with a new context. The new video series developed with project collaborator Are We Europe profiles each of the participating journalists: Opoka p'Arop Otto, Luis Miguel Cáceres Ortiz and Ahmed Gamal Ziada. Watch them all here.
