Raumlabor Installation at Centre Pompidou

New Sites for Assemblies

Raumlabor at Centre Pompidou

Visitors to Centre Pompidou in Paris can now experience a new installation by Berlin architecture collective Raumlabor – the result of a partnership between the Evens Foundation and Centre Pompidou.

Raumlabor—recipient of the Golden Lion at the 2021 Venice Biennale—has imagined an open, organic, and utopian form for collective gatherings that comes without a clear protocol of inhabitation and use. Located in Forum-1 of the Centre Pompidou, Forms of Assembly is a modular and versatile structure that can be used for discussions, lectures, performances, and film nights. It will provide an assembly space from May to September 2022, and will be activated later in other contexts and for other events.

This commission is part of our Assemblies: Modern Rituals project where we invited artists and architects to reinvent forms of assembling by imagining new spaces, scripts, and rituals. In partnership with the Centre Pompidou in Paris, we then decided to launch an experiment through the co-production of a prototype for a new assembly space.
